Sophia's new furniture
Here's her room. Still a few necessary things missing - mattress, changing table mattress, a carpet, and maybe some shelves or a bookshelf. I am also not sure that the furniture should be that way, I think we would like to switch place of the bed and the drawers. But it's starting to be ready now! Yay!
Today I will only help Memo with some presentation - last minute as always and supposedly have some class. At night I might bake some more gingerbread cookies - Memo would like to give some away to a person who has helped him a lot with homework - I need to improve the technique! haha...

Christmas Feeling!
Finally - birthday and all passed, Christmas is finally here!
I LOVE Christmas!
So today I spent most of my free time decorating or fixing the decoration... I uploaded two pictures earlier, here comes the rest!
I am pretty happy with the result. I mean, that's all we had, and probably all we are getting, except for a tree. The tiny plant palm tree will not serve as a christmas tree this year!
So yesterday I spent baking gingerbread cookies, which can be seen in the little white bowl. I also made lussekatter - the yellow buns... they taste way better than they look. You can also get a glimps of the oh so famous butterscotch.
So tonight when Memo comes home we're having our Advents fika - YAY!!!!!
Other than that the babyshower went very well on Saturday - 30 ladies I don't know showed up. It was very nice actually - a bit of breakfast and lots of gifts for Sophia!!!
Here you can see most of them:
And also, today the crib and the changer arrives. I am actually waiting for the carpenter to arrive, as I write this! I will upload pictures tomorrow - Memo designed both the crib and the changer.
Have a great night - or morning!

Short update
christmas decoration has begun! Yesterday I spent the whole day baking gingerbread cookies, as well as Lussekatter. More pictures and a proper upload will be up later today! puss
A special day
Today is a special day, not only because it's my birthday... but also because Memo and I got to see baby Sophia at the doctors this afternoon.
She's big now, no longer tiny - 2.6kg and 45cm
The doctors guess is that she will weigh around 3.2kg in January.
So soon now, it's freaking me out a bit!
Anywho, this is a short update... I've kept busy baking all day and want to relax for a bit now!

Patience
My patience for this apartment and Mexico is starting to run out....
In less than one week we have had 3 pretty major problems with the apartment:
*Toilet broke on Saturday - couldn't flush: they were supposed to come fix it the same day, came on Tuesday
*Gas ran out - again - 4th time since August. Why can't they use electricity like the developed world? Why can't it be automatic refill when it starts running out, at least? Why does it always have to run out at night?
*No electricity - again. This is what? The 10th time since August?
Since I have been living in apartments, I have never had these many problems with a place.
Since August:
*The toilet has been "down" twice - same problem both times, the flush broke
*A leak in the kitchen, under the sink
*The gas
*Electricity - I am not talking the general cuts, but the ones because the little thing of our house is "burnt out" - 3 times since August.
*The interphone doesn't work
*Ants, cockroaches - our house is clean, believe me, I have nothing else to do
*Problem with bathroom sink
I mean come on, wtf!?
Anyways, Mexico isn't impressing me any more than the apartment itself. Doctors that shouldn't be trusted - I am not even gonna start with that, it pisses me off - I will just say; our OB/GYN is a fucking retard.
What's up with the power cuts?
The system - or lack of such.
Oh, and I dare you to go to the grocery store and find any ingredient that is not used in typical Mexican cuisine.... I dare you?
IMPOSSIBLE! I am trying to come up with some interesting dishes for lunch and dinner - impossible to have any variation in this country.
None of this irritated me last year, but then I really didn't care that much.
Now I do, and I am tired of it.
We'll see if Mexico can improve, otherwise I think we will head back to the developed world shortly.

Knäck and the multiplier
This morning I woke up super early. It pretty much sucked.
But I finished what I started last night when the gas ran out - again *grrr*
I baked the banana bread I had in the oven, and finished the Knäck - another christmas candy.
Not much else happened today, although now I am on my way to a class... something about the baby.
It will be interesting.
Here's some scary news about the "drug war" here in Mexico - in Guadalajara actually...
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-latin-america-15878114
I don't feel too scared thou.... should be fine.

Smörkola/Butterscotch
Smörkola / Butterscotch
The butterscotch recipe mentioned in the previous post!
100 g Smör/Butter
2 dl/ 200 ml Grädde/Cream
3 dl/ 300 ml Socker/Sugar
1 dl/ 100 ml Ljus Sirap/ I use maple syrup since Sirap does not exist here
1 tsk/ 1 tsp Vaniljsocker/Vanilla sugar
Orange fudge:
2 Apelsiner/ Oranges + skal/peel
1 Citron/ Lemon + skal/peel
Pistage fudge:
1 dl/ 100 ml hackade, rostade pistagenötter/ chopped/roasted pistachios
Pepparkakskola/ Gingerbread fudge:
2 tsk/ tsp pepparkakskrydda/gingerbread spice
Chocolate Fudge:
2 msk/ tbs kakao/cacao
Lime Fudge:
2 Lime + skal/peel (I did without the peel and it was fine)
1. Melt the butter in a pot with a thick bottom
2. Add all ingredients (not flavor) - let boil for 15-30 min without a lid - stir from time to time
3. Test if the fudge is ready by doing a "kulprov" - put some of the fudge in a class of water, if you can make a ball out of it, it is ready.
4. When "ready" add flavor of choice - then pour it out on an oiled metal sheet - I don't have one and use a glass thing with a lot of oil in it.
5. Let cool - when hard enough, cut with scissors or a knife and wrap in wax paper - smörgåspapper

Constant vacation
My students are on vacation from their "normal" school again this week - it's thanksgiving... This is the third full week of vacation they have had since September. Not bad I have to say.
Anywho, thus I had class this morning - until now.
It was supposed to be a 1½h class, which ended up being a 2½h class because the mom forgot that her child was with me... not bad I have to say.
It was ok thou, we played our game, started watching a new movie (in french) and ended the class with looking at videos of the minions on Youtube.
Now I will try to wrap as many butterscotch as possible - I made more last night.
Some with lime flavour.
Enjoy

Washing...
Today it's Tuesday, but it feels like a Monday. Why!?
Because we had a long weekend here in Mexico - yesterday was a holiday.
Not only was it a long weekend, but it was also a weekend when the government had decided that things should be cheaper.
So, we went shopping.
Bought some things for the baby that we hadn't put on the list for the baby shower - blankets and stuff.
But most importantly - we bought a washing machine and a dryer. YAY!
I am so excited.
We spent what, for us, was a small fortune on these, but hopefully they will work for at least 15 years.
Otherwise we spent some time with Memo's friends, which was nice.
Although, I am starting to be very very tired and exhausted all the time now.
Everything is heavy and difficult.
Not fun.

Super fast...
The week has passed super fast, it's already Thursday.
I have done nothing - except for the epic fail of yesterday... I am still pissed. Stupid butter.
This morning I woke up at 7.40 - I tried to fall asleep until 9, slept until now... I feel pretty bad.
Oh well, I am pregnant.
Only like 5½ weeks left or something... until Sophia comes.
I am nervous.
We have nothing ready. But I guess we will start doing that AFTER the baby shower - next weekend, when we know what we need to buy.
We started buying some diapers, so we have a few now, and wipes... got a few free products last week in a super ugly diaper bag, so we also have some creams and stuff...
There's so much to think about... and to learn
I better get to it

Pissed
Wow... I am feeling a bit better now, and felt I wanted to be productive.
After having cleaned the house - including Sophia's room - held 2 classes, I decided I wanted to try to make some christmas candy - more specifically: Smörkola (butterscotch).
I happily went to the store, got all the ingredients needed + the ingredients to make some more banana bread. I started out by making the banana bread because it has to be in the oven for about an hour, and I thought it would be a bit more efficient to make the butterscotch WHILE the banana bread was baking.
I proudly put my banana bread in the oven - made on a record time btw - and started looking through the recipe of butterscotch.
The first thing that hits me - I do not have any more butter. I only got enough for EITHER banana bread or butterscotch, not both.
I cursed A LOT and now I have accepted faith and went back to being unproductive on the couch - I am so pissed!
Enjoy your evening

Slow
Last years improvised decoration |
Haven't had class for the two past days, and I am now thinking whether it's smart to have it today.
I think I will... it's only two hours and I get to rest before and after.
Just need to sweep the floors and that's about it!
I am also starting to think about christmas candy... I want to make knäck, luseebullar, smörkola and something that isn't candy - christmas ham.
My plan was to start decorating etc on 1a advent - 4th sunday before christmas... but I realized that's before my birthday this year, so I will do it on 29th of November or something.
Can't wait to start with it, I love christmas!!!!

Sick
It's quiet here...
That's because I am not feeling very well... the energy I have is used to spend time with Memo... or today - try to clean up a bit, so we don't get a cockroach invasion.
I am guessing I will be better tomorrow... two days are usually enough for whatever virus-thing to get out of my body.

Äntligen!
Finally! It's Friday.
I am here in our awesome couch, with my tea, thinking about what should be done today and this weekend.
Friday:
Clean the house - I have started with Friday cleaning. It feels good to have an extra clean house over the weekend.
Class - I supposedly have two classes today, but lately they haven't happened. We'll see today.
Doctors appointment: Today ít's been a month since we saw Sophia last, thus it's time again. We're bringing up the delivery, as well as the contractions I am having.
Just enjoy
Saturday:
Finishing the baby's room - We have one wall left, remember?
Put lack on the legs of the couch - Memo's job
Class - I actually will start having one 1½h class on Saturdays
Wash the baby's clothes - I want to make sure it's done. Considering all these contractions, getting more and more intense, you never know when she's coming!
All of this should be done before lunch time
Just enjoy
Sunday
Help Memo with Macro
Enjoy (:
Looks like an ok weekend.

Thursday
It's almost Friday - quality time for me and Memo! Yay... This week passed fast, like all weeks seem to do at the moment.
I am busy with my daily chores and class, and don't have too much time to be bored - good.
I just finished my awesome breakfast - banana bread and camomille tea... mmm!
Now I need to get moving, got a few things to do today.
Baking more banana bread, clean up this mess a bit, prepare classes etc.... Enough to keep me more than busy until lunch time.
So again, if you're waiting for me to answer.... tonight! Promise!

A new start
We all need a new start some times. Although it takes time to succeed, it might be worth it!
I've been lazy today. After two nights of barely no sleep, I slept very well between 6-11 today.
We have been sleeping at Memo's parents house for the two past nights, and the bed there is smaller and harder. I don't like.
But now I got to catch up on a bit of sleep.
I made banana bread again last night - third time and I still love it. I eat it for breakfast every morning.
Other than that, the day just started and there is not much to say really! Haha...
Now I have a few things to do, so anyone who's expecting an answer - later!

Internet
Internet is working.
It has been up and going for a few days, but it's been a busy weekend, and start of the week.
On Saturday we went to a communion in some park. It was really nice, free food and free drinks - non alcoholic for me of course.
Sunday was spent half studying - memo not me, and half out and about. It was nice.
We (I) entered week 32 (33 if you count in a different way) yesterday, so that means it's only 8ish weeks left until she's here, Sophia that is. And she's growing. I am starting to stress a bit about the delivery, so on Friday we're talking to the doctor about that.
Sadly I doubt we will be able to do the 3D ultrasound I wanted - someone stole a set of our keys, so we need to change locks and all that, which will cost a bit... it needs to be prioritized.
